Vincenzo Lionetti, associate professor of anaesthesiology at the Interdisciplinary Health Science Centre of the Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies in Pisa, has been appointed Head of the Perioperative Section of the scientific journal Intensive Care Medicine Experimental.
Created in 2013, Intensive Care Medicine Experimental (ICMx) is the second official journal of the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine and is dedicated to experimental and preclinical research in intensive care. The journal is constantly growing in terms of submissions and number of citations. ICMx is an open-access online journal. The geographical distribution of submissions is very wide and includes Europe, Japan, Australia, Canada and the United States. It is a Q1 journal in the field of Critical Care and Intensive Care Medicine and is one of the few journals that publish research that builds the pipeline of new discoveries that can advance critical patient bedside care.

Lionetti was contacted directly by the Editor in Chief of the magazine, Nicole Juffermans, to strengthen the editorial line of the magazine. The section coordinated by Lionetti currently includes contributions from Aarne Feldheiser, MD, Evangelische Kliniken Essen-Mitte, Germany; Ib Jammer, MD, PhD, DESA, Haukeland University Hospital, Bergen, Norway; Juan V. Llau, MD, PhD, Hospital Universitari Doctor Peset, València, Spain; Matthias Stopfkuchen-Evans, MD, Harvard Medical School, USA
